Denmark delivered the performance of their lives as they hammered Russia 4-1 at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen to book their place in the Round of 16 of the tournament. 20-year-old Eriksen replacement, Mikkel Damsgaard, opened the scoring for Denmark with a brilliant shot that left the keeper rooted to the spot after 38 minutes. Yussuf Poulsen scored his second goal of the tournament from a loose back pass before the hour to double his side’s lead. Russia captain Artem Dzyuba scored from the spot to halve the deficit before Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen raised the roof with a rasping drive from all of 25 yards that almost ripped the net to give his side a 3-1 lead. Joakim Maehle scored the final goal for his side as they finished second in Group B. They will face Wales in the Round of 16.

In Group B’s other fixture, Belgium overcame a resolute Finland side with a 2-0 win. Finland goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky gifted Belgium an opener with an own goal after 74 minutes, before Romelu Lukaku scored his third goal of the competition in the closing stages to wrap up a successful group campaign.

In Group C, Netherlands thrashed a spirited North Macedonia 3-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam. FC Barcelona winger Memphis Depay opened the scoring for the Netherlands before a Georginio Wijnaldum brace secured all three points and a perfect group performance with 9 points from 9 available.

In Group C’s other game, Christoph Baumgartner scored the only goal for Austria in their 1-0 win over Ukraine. Austria delivered a complete performance against Ukraine and booked their place in the Round of 16, where they will face Group A winners, Italy. Ukraine, like the other third placed teams will have to wait for the conclusion of other groups’ games to determine their fate.
